Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Gender inequality remains a significant challenge in many parts of Nigeria, with rural areas like Awe Local Government Area, Nasarawa State, facing particular challenges in achieving gender equity. In recent years, digital media has become an important tool for advocating gender equality by providing platforms for women to express their views, access information, and engage in dialogues about gender roles. Through social media, blogs, and online forums, women in Awe have the opportunity to challenge gender norms, share experiences, and create awareness about gender-based discrimination. This study aims to explore the role of digital media in bridging gender inequality in Awe LGA by examining its effectiveness in empowering women and raising awareness on gender issues.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the growing potential of digital media to promote gender equality, its specific impact on bridging gender inequality in Awe LGA has not been well-documented. Women in rural areas often face cultural and societal barriers that limit their access to information and opportunities. This study seeks to examine how digital media serves as a tool for empowering women in Awe, addressing gender inequality, and creating more inclusive opportunities in education, employment, and decision-making.
